The Other 50% - Women In Leadership

#1 &me Co-founder: Sheta Mittal, Using Customer ideas for Product Innovation

Listen Later

What is it about running marathons that so many high performers right from Wall Street to start-up founders are attracted to it?

"Running marathons is hard. When you run that much, there are always those last few minutes where you know you can't do it. A sane body wouldn't do it. But you do it anyway. And then you feel emotional because your body could achieve more than you realized...the feeling is so strong that you end up living with it even after. As an entrepreneur, having that feeling of "keep going" is even more important, you and your team are trying so many things for the first time, it's a new idea and the answers don't exist."

You'd be surprised that so many answers for women's health don't exist. 20% of Indian women suffer from PCOS, while 50%* are anemic! For decades, clinical results of research done largely on men were extrapolated to women. But women have a different hormonal cycle and their specific problems haven't been a research priority.

In this episode of The Other 50%, we discuss Sheta Mittal's flying journey from aerospace engineering to a Harvard MBA, why she took the leap of faith to work in China, and how &me innovates and designs products for a globally non-existent category.
