Earlier in our story, Mairi invited the hapless cartographer Mat Mapman to join her on the road to Phandalin,  a mining town off the Triboar Trail. They stayed the night at the Carnath Roadhouse, where Mairi wandered off into the Mere of Dead Men and was kidnapped by drow. Mat spent a comfortable night with one of the employees at the inn, we join him now the following morning...
