in the first part of this letter Peter talked about walking in hope, now he is going to talk about walking in holiness.

These two things go together, 1 John 3:3 “every man that hath this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure”

The root meaning of the word “holy” is to be set apart or to be different.

This is not talking about being odd or weird, but being different.

His present lifestyle is not only different from his past way of life, but it is different from the lifestyles of the unbelievers around him.

Now, this is not an easy thing to do, it is hard to walk in this world and maintain a holy walk.

The anti-God atmosphere around us that the Bible calls “the world” is always pressuring us, trying to force us to conform.

In this paragraph, Peter presented to his readers five spiritual incentives to encourage them (and us) to maintain a different lifestyle, a holy walk in a polluted world.
