Listen Later

Looking at 1 Peter 4:7 “... For the sake of your prayers...”, and connecting it back to 1 Peter 3:7 “... so your prayers may not be hindered...”, we can see a relationship between our actions and how our prayers are 'heard' by God.

Peter hits on this idea repeatedly, that our love of others, our honor of others has a direct correlation with God hearing our prayers.

It begs the question, “Where am I under minding my own prayers?”

Am I not loving at times, in a way that to the detriment of my own prayers?

Joshua is lamenting the situation and has fallen down on his face to pray to God and God tells them to get up, not to pray, but to do something about it.

The reality is that sometimes we have to act ourselves into feeling. This love that Peter calls us to sometimes, quite often, requires action over intention, it requires making love a verb and not a feeling. So that’s the challenge today, to live out this love that Peter calls us to and I trust that God will meet me in that action and deliver the feeling.
