Peter starts by telling us to get rid of the negative things that block spiritual growth — like envy, deceit, hypocrisy, and gossip. Instead, he says we should crave God’s Word like a newborn baby craves milk. Just like physical food helps our bodies grow, the Word of God feeds our spirit and keeps us strong.
Then Peter uses a beautiful image. He says Jesus is the living stone — rejected by people but chosen by God. And we, as believers, are living stones too. God is building something special out of our lives. Together, we form a spiritual house, a place where God’s presence can dwell.
