1 Samuel 11:5-15:
Y he aquí que Saúl venía del campo, tras los bueyes. Y Saúl preguntó: —¿Qué le pasa al pueblo, para que llore?
Entonces le repitieron las palabras de los hombres de Jabes. Y cuando Saúl oyó estas palabras, el Espíritu de Dios descendió con poder sobre él, y se encendió su ira en gran manera. Él tomó un par de bueyes, los cortó en pedazos y los envió por medio de mensajeros a todo el territorio de Israel, diciendo: “Así se hará con los bueyes del que no salga tras Saúl y Samuel”. Entonces el temor del SEÑOR cayó sobre el pueblo, y salieron como un solo hombre. Saúl les pasó revista en Bezec: Los hijos de Israel eran trescientos mil, además de treinta mil hombres de Judá. Y a los mensajeros que habían venido les dijeron: “Así dirán a los hombres de Jabes, en Galaad: ‘Mañana, a la hora de más calor, serán librados’”.
Los mensajeros llegaron y lo dijeron a los hombres de Jabes, quienes se alegraron. Entonces los hombres de Jabes respondieron a sus enemigos: —Mañana nos rendiremos a ustedes, para que hagan con nosotros todo lo que les parezca bien.
Y sucedió que al día siguiente, Saúl distribuyó el pueblo en tres escuadrones. Luego entraron en medio del campamento durante la vigilia de la mañana, e hirieron a los amonitas hasta la hora de más calor. Y sucedió que los que quedaron se dispersaron de tal manera que no quedaron dos de ellos juntos. Entonces el pueblo preguntó a Samuel: —¿Quiénes son los que decían: “¿Ha de reinar Saúl sobre nosotros?”. ¡Entréguennos a esos hombres para que les demos muerte!
Saúl respondió: —No morirá nadie en este día, porque el SEÑOR ha dado hoy una victoria en Israel.
Entonces Samuel dijo al pueblo: —¡Vengan y vayamos a Gilgal para que confirmemos allí el reino!
Todo el pueblo acudió a Gilgal, y allí en Gilgal proclamaron rey a Saúl, delante del SEÑOR. Allí también ofrecieron sacrificios de paz delante del SEÑOR, y allí Saúl y todos los hombres de Israel se alegraron muchísimo.

En el capítulo anterior vimos cómo Saúl fue ungido y coronado delante del pueblo. En ese procedimiento, varios menospreciaron a Saúl por haber sido seleccionado como rey entre todos los demás hombres de Israel. Tal vez su personalidad un poco introvertida hizo que Saúl fuera mofado por algunos. Además, muchos no vieron con buenos ojos que Saúl profetizara junto con el grupo de profetas en el camino.
Después de que Saúl escuchó la mala noticia de la injusticia que los amonitas querían hacer con lo israelitas de la familia de Jabes sacando los ojos derechos, Saúl se llenó de indignación y enojo por el atrevimiento de los enemigos del pueblo de Dios y porque ellos se sentían desamparados sin nadie que los defienda.
En ese momento, podemos decir que se "activó" el poder del Espíritu de Dios que estaba en Saúl, se llenó de valor e hizo un llamado a todos los hombres guerreros. ¡Reunió a cientos de miles de ellos alrededor de todo el territorio israelita!
Después que salió al campo de batalla, pudo eliminar al enemigo, quienes sufrieron una derrota masiva.
Muchos estaban tan alegres y orgullosos por el liderazgo de Saúl, que quisieron dar castigo de muerte a los que menospreciaron a Saúl como rey. Pero Saúl y Samuel, el profeta, tenían un corazón noble y no permitieron que hicieran daño a los escépticos del liderazgo de Saúl.
Más adelante veremos que esta virtud la olvidó Saúl, pero en este episodio de la historia, vemos a un Saúl que se dejó guiar por su líder Samuel y, además, entendió que Saúl no fue escogido para destruir al pueblo sino que lo fue para servirles y gobernarlos con justicia bajo la dirección de Dios. No era el momento para dejar que el odio, el rencor y la venganza relucieran en un momento de celebración al haber derrotado al verdadero enemigo, y no sobre algunos que no pensaban igual que él.
Qué buen ejemplo a seguir. Es exactamente lo que debemos estar poniendo en práctica en nuestros hogares. Vamos a tener muchos malentendidos entre esposos e hijos. Algunas discusiones se pueden salir de control, pero con la ayuda de Dios podremos superarlas, resolverlas y ponerlas en el pasado. Si no ocurre esto, vamos a vivir bajo los constantes ataques entre nosotros mismos. Vamos a recordar lo que nos hicieron o el momento de confrontación y vamos a descuidarnos, cuando el verdadero enemigo de nuestras familias es el adversario el diablo.
No permitamos que algún comentario o conflicto del pasado nos controle y nos haga decir o hacer algo indebido. Las emociones controladas por un resentimiento pueden ser tan peligrosas que pueden traer autodestrucción; es como si detonaras una bomba en el comedor donde todos están sentados. Así es una palabra dicha con rabia y enojo.
Vivamos más bien celebrando las victorias que como familia vamos obteniendo y así vamos dejando atrás memorias dolorosas que no aportan nada al crecimiento y fortalecimiento del hogar.

Now there was Saul, coming behind the herd from the field; and Saul said, “What troubles the people, that they weep?” And they told him the words of the men of Jabesh. Then the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard this news, and his anger was greatly aroused. So he took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, “Whoever does not go out with Saul and Samuel to battle, so it shall be done to his oxen.” And the fear of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out with one consent. When he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand. And they said to the messengers who came, “Thus you shall say to the men of Jabesh Gilead: ‘Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have help.’ ” Then the messengers came and reported it to the men of Jabesh, and they were glad. Therefore the men of Jabesh said, “Tomorrow we will come out to you, and you may do with us whatever seems good to you.”
So it was, on the next day, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and killed Ammonites until the heat of the day. And it happened that those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together. Then the people said to Samuel, “Who is he who said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, that we may put them to death.”
But Saul said, “Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has accomplished salvation in Israel.”
Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go to Gilgal and renew the kingdom there.” So all the people went to Gilgal, and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal. There they made sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord, and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

In the previous chapter we saw how Saul was anointed and crowned before the people. In that proceeding, Saul was belittled by several for having been selected as king over all the other men of Israel. Perhaps his somewhat introverted personality made Saul mocked by some. Furthermore, many did not like the fact that Saul prophesied along with the group of prophets along the way.
After Saul heard the bad news of the injustice that the Ammonites wanted to do to the Israelites of Jabez's family by gouging out their right eyes, Saul was filled with indignation and anger at the audacity of the enemies of God's people and because they felt helpless with no one to defend them.
At that moment, we can say that the power of the Spirit of God that was in Saul was "activated", he was filled with courage and made a call to all warrior men. He gathered hundreds of thousands of them all over the Israelite territory!
After he went out on the battlefield, he was able to eliminate the enemy, who suffered a massive defeat.
Many were so happy and proud of Saul's leadership that they wanted to punish those who despised Saul as king with death. But Saul and Samuel, the prophet, had a noble heart and did not allow those who were skeptical of Saul's leadership to be harmed.
Later we will see that Saul forgot this virtue, but in this episode of history, we see a Saul who allowed himself to be guided by his leader Samuel and, furthermore, understood that Saul was not chosen to destroy the people but rather to serve them and rule them justly under God's guidance. This was not the time to let hatred, resentment and revenge shine in a moment of celebration at having defeated the true enemy, and not over some who did not think the same as him.
What a good example to follow. It is exactly what we should be putting into practice in our homes. We are going to have many misunderstandings between partners and children. Some arguments can get out of control, but with God's help we can overcome them, resolve them and put them in the past. If this does not happen, we will live under constant attacks among ourselves. We are going to remember what they did to us or the moment of confrontation and we are going to neglect ourselves, when the true enemy of our families is the adversary, the devil.
Let's not allow some comment or conflict from the past to control us and make us say or do the wrong thing. Emotions controlled by resentment can be so dangerous that they can bring self-destruction; it's like you set off a bomb in the dining room where everyone is sitting. Like this is a word said with rage and anger.
Let us rather live celebrating the victories that we are obtaining as a family and thus we are leaving behind painful memories that do not contribute anything to the growth and strengthening of the home.

And they said to the messengers who came, “Thus you shall say to the men of Jabesh Gilead: ‘Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have help.’ ” Then the messengers came and reported it to the men of Jabesh, and they were glad. Therefore the men of Jabesh said, “Tomorrow we will come out to you, and you may do with us whatever seems good to you.”
So it was, on the next day, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and killed Ammonites until the heat of the day. And it happened that those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together. Then the people said to Samuel, “Who is he who said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, that we may put them to death.”
But Saul said, “Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has accomplished salvation in Israel.”
Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go to Gilgal and renew the kingdom there.” So all the people went to Gilgal, and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal. There they made sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord, and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

In the previous chapter we saw how Saul was anointed and crowned before the people. In that proceeding, Saul was belittled by several for having been selected as king over all the other men of Israel. Perhaps his somewhat introverted personality made Saul mocked by some. Furthermore, many did not like the fact that Saul prophesied along with the group of prophets along the way.
After Saul heard the bad news of the injustice that the Ammonites wanted to do to the Israelites of Jabez's family by gouging out their right eyes, Saul was filled with indignation and anger at the audacity of the enemies of God's people and because they felt helpless with no one to defend them.
At that moment, we can say that the power of the Spirit of God that was in Saul was "activated", he was filled with courage and made a call to all warrior men. He gathered hundreds of thousands of them all over the Israelite territory!
After he went out on the battlefield, he was able to eliminate the enemy, who suffered a massive defeat.
Many were so happy and proud of Saul's leadership that they wanted to punish those who despised Saul as king with death. But Saul and Samuel, the prophet, had a noble heart and did not allow those who were skeptical of Saul's leadership to be harmed.
Later we will see that Saul forgot this virtue, but in this episode of history, we see a Saul who allowed himself to be guided by his leader Samuel and, furthermore, understood that Saul was not chosen to destroy the people but rather to serve them and rule them justly under God's guidance. This was not the time to let hatred, resentment and revenge shine in a moment of celebration at having defeated the true enemy, and not over some who did not think the same as him.
What a good example to follow. It is exactly what we should be putting into practice in our homes. We are going to have many misunderstandings between partners and children. Some arguments can get out of control, but with God's help we can overcome them, resolve them and put them in the past. If this does not happen, we will live under constant attacks among ourselves. We are going to remember what they did to us or the moment of confrontation and we are going to neglect ourselves, when the true enemy of our families is the adversary, the devil.
Let's not allow some comment or conflict from the past to control us and make us say or do the wrong thing. Emotions controlled by resentment can be so dangerous that they can bring self-destruction; it's like you set off a bomb in the dining room where everyone is sitting. Like this is a word said with rage and anger.
Let us rather live celebrating the victories that we are obtaining as a family and thus we are leaving behind painful memories that do not contribute anything to the growth and strengthening of the home.

1 Samuel 11: Un corazón sin resentimiento ni venganza.
1 Samuel 11:5-15:
Y he aquí que Saúl venía del campo, tras los bueyes. Y Saúl preguntó: —¿Qué le pasa al pueblo, para que llore?
Entonces le repitieron las palabras de los hombres de Jabes. Y cuando Saúl oyó estas palabras, el Espíritu de Dios descendió con poder sobre él, y se encendió su ira en gran manera. Él tomó un par de bueyes, los cortó en pedazos y los envió por medio de mensajeros a todo el territorio de Israel, diciendo: “Así se hará con los bueyes del que no salga tras Saúl y Samuel”. Entonces el temor del SEÑOR cayó sobre el pueblo, y salieron como un solo hombre. Saúl les pasó revista en Bezec: Los hijos de Israel eran trescientos mil, además de treinta mil hombres de Judá. Y a los mensajeros que habían venido les dijeron: “Así dirán a los hombres de Jabes, en Galaad: ‘Mañana, a la hora de más calor, serán librados’”.
Los mensajeros llegaron y lo dijeron a los hombres de Jabes, quienes se alegraron. Entonces los hombres de Jabes respondieron a sus enemigos: —Mañana nos rendiremos a ustedes, para que hagan con nosotros todo lo que les parezca bien.
Y sucedió que al día siguiente, Saúl distribuyó el pueblo en tres escuadrones. Luego entraron en medio del campamento durante la vigilia de la mañana, e hirieron a los amonitas hasta la hora de más calor. Y sucedió que los que quedaron se dispersaron de tal manera que no quedaron dos de ellos juntos. Entonces el pueblo preguntó a Samuel: —¿Quiénes son los que decían: “¿Ha de reinar Saúl sobre nosotros?”. ¡Entréguennos a esos hombres para que les demos muerte!
Saúl respondió: —No morirá nadie en este día, porque el SEÑOR ha dado hoy una victoria en Israel.
Entonces Samuel dijo al pueblo: —¡Vengan y vayamos a Gilgal para que confirmemos allí el reino!
Todo el pueblo acudió a Gilgal, y allí en Gilgal proclamaron rey a Saúl, delante del SEÑOR. Allí también ofrecieron sacrificios de paz delante del SEÑOR, y allí Saúl y todos los hombres de Israel se alegraron muchísimo.

En el capítulo anterior vimos cómo Saúl fue ungido y coronado delante del pueblo. En ese procedimiento, varios menospreciaron a Saúl por haber sido seleccionado como rey entre todos los demás hombres de Israel. Tal vez su personalidad un poco introvertida hizo que Saúl fuera mofado por algunos. Además, muchos no vieron con buenos ojos que Saúl profetizara junto con el grupo de profetas en el camino.
Después de que Saúl escuchó la mala noticia de la injusticia que los amonitas querían hacer con lo israelitas de la familia de Jabes sacando los ojos derechos, Saúl se llenó de indignación y enojo por el atrevimiento de los enemigos del pueblo de Dios y porque ellos se sentían desamparados sin nadie que los defienda.
En ese momento, podemos decir que se "activó" el poder del Espíritu de Dios que estaba en Saúl, se llenó de valor e hizo un llamado a todos los hombres guerreros. ¡Reunió a cientos de miles de ellos alrededor de todo el territorio israelita!
Después que salió al campo de batalla, pudo eliminar al enemigo, quienes sufrieron una derrota masiva.
Muchos estaban tan alegres y orgullosos por el liderazgo de Saúl, que quisieron dar castigo de muerte a los que menospreciaron a Saúl como rey. Pero Saúl y Samuel, el profeta, tenían un corazón noble y no permitieron que hicieran daño a los escépticos del liderazgo de Saúl.
Más adelante veremos que esta virtud la olvidó Saúl, pero en este episodio de la historia, vemos a un Saúl que se dejó guiar por su líder Samuel y, además, entendió que Saúl no fue escogido para destruir al pueblo sino que lo fue para servirles y gobernarlos con justicia bajo la dirección de Dios. No era el momento para dejar que el odio, el rencor y la venganza relucieran en un momento de celebración al haber derrotado al verdadero enemigo, y no sobre algunos que no pensaban igual que él.
Qué buen ejemplo a seguir. Es exactamente lo que debemos estar poniendo en práctica en nuestros hogares. Vamos a tener muchos malentendidos entre esposos e hijos. Algunas discusiones se pueden salir de control, pero con la ayuda de Dios podremos superarlas, resolverlas y ponerlas en el pasado. Si no ocurre esto, vamos a vivir bajo los constantes ataques entre nosotros mismos. Vamos a recordar lo que nos hicieron o el momento de confrontación y vamos a descuidarnos, cuando el verdadero enemigo de nuestras familias es el adversario el diablo.
No permitamos que algún comentario o conflicto del pasado nos controle y nos haga decir o hacer algo indebido. Las emociones controladas por un resentimiento pueden ser tan peligrosas que pueden traer autodestrucción; es como si detonaras una bomba en el comedor donde todos están sentados. Así es una palabra dicha con rabia y enojo.
Vivamos más bien celebrando las victorias que como familia vamos obteniendo y así vamos dejando atrás memorias dolorosas que no aportan nada al crecimiento y fortalecimiento del hogar.
