In today’s reading, The LORD commands Saul to destroy the Amalekites for their crimes against the Israelites as they came out of Egypt generations ago, and Saul mobilizes his forces to make war, but in the victory that followed, he again disobeys the LORD, and spares the Amalekite king and much of their livestock alive. For this last offense, the LORD rejects Saul from being king, and prepares the heart of another, David the son of Jesse, to rule in his stead.
