1 Samuel 18-19, Psalms 11 & 59

Listen Later

In today’s reading, David the slayer of Goliath, and Jonathan the son of King Saul become fast friends, even as Saul’s madness and jealousy of David grow worse. The king at once values David’s service while also wishing him dead. As time passes and various attempts on David’s life fail, Jonathan intercedes for David and things briefly improve, but not for long. David, now the king’s son-in-law, ultimately flees to Samuel for aid.

Psalms 11 and 59 call to this time of David’s troubles, wherein he declares his trust in the LORD, and calls on Him for deliverance when Saul seeks his life.
