In today’s reading, David finds no quarter with the king of Gath, and so departs for the king of Moab, finding shelter for himself and those who met him en route at the cave of Adullam. At the word of the prophet Gad, David and his supporters depart for the land of Judah. Saul hears of David’s escape, and begins killing anyone who aided him, including the Ahimelech the priest and all his house. Its lone survivor finds David and advises him of Saul’s rampage.
Psalms 142, 35, and 52 refer to David’s experiences on the run, and when hearing of what Doeg the Edomite did to the priests of the LORD.
