In 1805, Aaron Burr, the former vice President of the United States kicked off a plan to strip land away from the US in the recently acquired Louisiana Territory - Or a plan to take land away from Spain that was adjacent to the territory - Or a plan to take troops into Washington City itself, remove President Jefferson and replace Congress and the government.
