On March 1st, 1976, the quiet neighborhood of Carderock Springs was rattled after a concerned citizen realized their neighbors hadn’t been seen in over a week. They requested for police to check on the family, as it was unusual for the Bishops to lay so low — they were known for being avid outdoors people, after all. When police arrived at the Bishop household, they discovered a grisly scene... a trail of blood traced from the front door to the driveway, and inside the house was evidence of a brutal attack – but the Bishop family was nowhere to be found. 

About two weeks later, the family's station wagon was discovered abandoned along the North Carolina / Tennessee border, at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park... almost 500 miles away from their driveway in Bethesda, MD. The father of the missing family, former highly-regarded US Government Foreign Service Officer William Bradford Bishop, Jr., seemed to have vanished into thin air – prompting the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Rockville, MD to charge him with murder in March of 1976 and later, the FBI to place him on their Most Wanted list. Now 86 years old, he is still considered armed and extremely dangerous – and possibly even an international fugitive.
