* vs 6-8 - I used to read this verse like you could be godly but not content.
* The proper way to understand it is “contentment springing from godliness is the best type of gain.”
* You can be content but not godly, but you can’t be godly and not content.
* The key is focus - why are you content?
* If it’s because you trust God for your provision then you’ll experience the best kind of gain you could ever experience.
* vs 9 - Paul moves on to talk about those who aren’t content.
* The opposite of content is “want” - those who consistently long for things.
* If you’re not experiencing godliness in your life you’ll find yourself wanting for more.
* vs 10 - for most people, their “want” is money.
* Why money? Because it represents our ability to possess what we “want.”
* If “want” is what you are feeling then money is the drug of choice.
* This is why people work 80 hours a week, sacrificing the things that should be most important to them.
* The cure is contentment springing from godliness.
* You’re not only satisfied with wha you have but you’re thankful to the God who gave it to you.
