John 16:5-15
1. Godʼs will (plans) can briefly seem to over-shadow His
comfort.
Vs. 6 because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled
your heart”
2. Surrender to Godʼs Word is always to our benefit.
Vs. 7 “It is to your advantage that I go away”
“This is one of the passages most pregnant with thought in the
profound discourses of Christ; with a few great strokes depicting all
and every part of the ministry of the Holy Ghost in the world--His
operation with reference to individuals as well as the mass, on
believers and unbelievers alike.” -Olshausen
“It is Christ's personal righteousness which the Spirit was to bring
home to the sinner's heart” -Brown
3. The Comforter can often put us in a state of flux.
Vs. 12-13 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot
bear them now. However…He will guide you into all truth”
I Peter 2:4-5
4. Our comfort should be found in bringing Him glory, not
temporal desires.
Vs. 14 “He will glorify Me”
