Ground Level Falcons are back with their 5th LP, âSkylineâ.
Release date : September 22nd, 2021.
This album was the bands most challenging to release, due to the start/stop nature of the pandemic of the past 18 months.
Despite the lockdowns and some lengthy gaps in practicing - the band put together, what they all believe to be, their strongest effort to date!
The GLF camp is back to a full lineup : bassist Greg Kolodychuk and lead guitarist/keyboardist Adrian Armitage have both returned from a 3 and a 4 year absence, respectively.
The last album both Greg and Adrian were a part of was 2017s âThe New Wildernessâ.
Backing vocalist, Olivia Ostrom, appears on all the songs this time around - she had made her debut on 2019s âGood Living Foundationâ , appearing on the last 2 songs of that album.
This album marks the 10-Year-Anniversary for the band, as well.
The band started out in the fall of 2011.
âSkylineâ is the bands first self-produced album to date; frontman Matt Gardiner took on the engineering & mixing.
The band used the analog online mastering service ARIA Mastering for the 2nd straight release.
The album is a wonderful blend of 60s/70s and grunge era music.
ABOUT THE ALBUM :
âSkylineâ is actually the prequel to 2019s âGood Living Foundationâ , story-line wise.
âSkylineâ takes place on the Skyline Trail - which is located in Jasper, Alberta, Canada. The protagonist (Trent Hemingway) has recently broken up with his girlfriend (Amy) and has taken to the Skyline Hike to clear his head.
Skyline Trail is a 27mile hike that has 5 campsites throughout to break up the hike.
Each song represents a different stops on the hike - which adds up to 7 stops when you include the starting and finishing points.
Each song also represents a different stage of the â7 Stages of Recovery*â as it relates to dealing with the end of this relationship.
As the songs take on the different stages of recovery - the album, itself, plays quite beautifully as a story.
Oliviaâs parts are varied from sparse & hauntingly, being placed in the background, to straight-up duets with Matt, depending on what part of the story is being told.
7 Songs & Stages :
1 - âThe Human Triggerâ = Shock & Denial
2 - âYour Face Gives It Awayâ = Pain & Guilt
3 - âBlood Memoryâ = Anger & Bargaining
4 - âDisLocationâ = Depression
5 - âStrawberry Moonâ = The Upward Turn
6 - âRunning Like a Riverâ = Reconstruction
7 - âSkylineâ = Acceptance & Hope
