Episode 10
Surprise support from people I didn’t know.
“Jake was always someone you could trust.”
Proverbs 27:2
“Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth—
a stranger, not your own lips”
Psalm 37:3-7a
“Trust in the Lord and do good.
Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.
Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust him, and he will help you.
He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.
Be still in the presence of the Lord,
and wait patiently for him to act.”
“One of the fruits of silence is the freedom to let God be our justifier. We don’t need to straighten others out. There is a story of a medieval monk who was being unjustly accused of certain offenses. One day he looked out his window and saw a dog biting and tearing on a rug that had been hung out to dry. As he watched, the Lord spoke to him saying, ‘That is what is happening to your reputation. But if you will trust me, I will care for you – reputation and all.’ Perhaps more than anything else, silence brings us to believe that God can care for us – ‘reputation and all.’” -Celebration of Discipline
Challenge: Go a whole day without trying to shape people’s impression of you with words. This includes no explaining your actions (typically an attempt to make sure people see us the way we want)
