However, on July 2, 1937,  Amelia Earhart disappeared near Howland Island during a flight around the world with Fred Noonan in one of the 20th century's most famous unsolved disappearances. Did aliens snatch her from the sky? Did the Japanese detect her and shoot down her aircraft? Was she a spy? Did she simply run out of fuel over the Pacific Ocean and sank to the bottom of the sea?
