Aging seems to terrorize a lot of us, especially women. From the passing of beauty to cognitive decline and beyond, it’s a universal fear we can’t always conquer. So what IS it about aging that scares us so much? And how is it different for men and women?

“That’s what I love about these high school girls. I get older, they stay the same age.” Matthew McConaughey immortalized this line in Dazed and Confused and as all of us former high school girls have aged, it’s replayed itself like a horrifying broken record in our heads ever since.
