One of the first questions a person asks when joining a new group is, "What are the rules?" We want to know how we should conduct ourselves toward others in the group. What are our responsibilities and obligations? The Pharisees salivated over this question. They had taken God's law in the Old Testament and formulated 613 rules for daily living. They had a rule for everything. They were very upset when Jesus disregarded their elaborate rule structure and offered His disciples a single rule by which to live. One rule to rule them all. Many churches today are fond of rules, too. They have a rule for everything. Real Christians, however, are still guided by Jesus' singular commandment. Today, we explore Jesus' one rule.
