#101 What to Do When You Need a Goal

Listen Later

First of all, thanks to everyone that sent me an email, left a comments on the site or provided a rankings and reviews on iTunes about the 100th episode of the podcast.

I truly appreciate everyone who takes the time to listen each week and I love hearing from you when you have a question or comment.

Doing this podcast has forced me to evaluate what I do and your feedback has helped me improve the way I coach my teams. THANKS!

We’re not moving into the last month of the season here in the midwest. At this time of year I’m focused on bringing together all of the different things we’ve been working on rather than adding too many new ideas to our training sessions. We play more small-sided games to reinforce the things we’ve worked on this year to help us be sharp for our end-of-season events

In This Episode

I want to expand on the question from Joey that I answered last week. If you didn’t hear that episode you can go back and listen by Clicking Here.

His question was about when to change your tactics. I gave him a few ideas but I had some more thoughts about it so I thought I’d go into more detail this week.

Joey asked:

My question today is in regards to making in game adjustments. I coach a U15 boys tier 3 team & we had a quarter final cup game yesterday that my team lost 2-0.

We’re usually a high powered offensive team, but couldn’t seem to break the lines on this day. At what point should you realize as a coach, something needs to be changed ( formation, tactics) & what should you be looking at as a coach for signs something needs to be changed?

We were down 1-0 at half & about 20 min into the second half, they scored another. At that point, with 20 min left & us getting no quality chances (we play 40 min half’s) I put my CB up ST & was playing a 3-4-3 from 4-4-2 but still didn’t seem to make a difference though.

Today I talk about the four questions you should ask yourself when your team isn’t able to score and the three things you should look at changing to help you find the goal that your team needs.

Remember!

Next Week

There are a number of topics that I’m working on for future episodes but I have decided on one for next week so you’ll just have to check back next Friday to hear what I’ve settled on for Episode 101.
