In this episode I share a true story I wrote in high school during the 90s. The story centers around my first crush. I was in elementary school, and I was too shy to tell her how I felt.Ultimately, the events that took place had a significant impact on my life and the way I viewed relationships and dating. Much of the actions I took were informed by what I had learned from the media as a child about what being a man means. In the end, I was left heartbroken and embarrassed and had no idea what I had done wrong. The full story can be found here.Following the story, I discuss why men are often intimidated by women, and what implications this has on behavior. I discuss the media and how it can impact people’s (especially children’s) ideas about gender dynamics. Finally, I talk about how gender equality can improve how both men and women see each other and themselves.
