Throughout the history of the church, the story of faithfulness to the Word of God has always been the story of persecution. After all, Jesus promised that it would happen! So where will we find hope? Ourselves? Others? Political rulers who lean our way? Cultural movements? All of these will fail us, even ourselves. Instead, by faith, we look to Christ our Savior, who is our help, our life, our hope.

What comfort that was for Martin Luther and the Reformers as they faced persecution, rejection, and even the threat of death for their faithful witness to Scripture alone. By God’s grace in Christ, they stood firm. In Christ alone, they found their hope…and so do we!
