When you trust in Jesus Christ you join a new team. You become a new person by being united with Christ. Baptism symbolizes this union with Christ. Baptism depicts our union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. When you go underwater you symbolize participation with Christ in his death and burial, and then when you come out of the water you symbolize your participation with Christ in his resurrection and new life.
