In this episode of Potstirrer Podcast, Jaye reacts to the leaked draft US Supreme Court Opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. Written by Justice Samuel Alito, the draft majority opinion signals an overturning of the Roe v. Wade precedent regarding abortion, and would leave abortion rights up to the states. Jaye argues that Alito's reasoning in Dobbs for overturning Roe is particularly alarming, as the way Roe was decided is similar to that of several other civil rights cases handed down by the Court over the past seventy years. Using historical analysis, Jaye makes the case that overturning Roe v. Wade was always meant to be a starting point in a right-wing quest to roll back a host of civil rights and liberties, and ultimately solidify authoritarian minority rule in the United States.
