Today’s guest is Melanie Grace Rajan, a final year PhD student currently based in Northern Ireland. In this episode, Éadaoin Regan chats with Melanie about her experiences with racism in academia, general day to day life in both Ireland and the UK. However, this episode largely focuses on Melanie's research which focuses on mass social media protest movements. Melanie provides a fascinating overview of the parallels and obstacles for both the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements, the difference they can make and the importance of uplifting appropriate voices. In an effort to ensure we are providing further useful resources, Melanie has suggested listening/watching the following: (Podcast) Issa Rae Presents, (Podcast) Trevor Noah Presents, (TV Show) – Insecure.
