106-Should you negotiate the terms of a leadership promotion?

Listen Later

Have you ever negotiated the terms of a promotion? More likely than not, women will accept the terms of a promotion without negotiating for the benefits that come with the package.

An HBR study shows that even when women negotiate, they are 10-15% less likely to get what they want. This gap widens even more at the leadership levels, as there are more belief patterns driven out of fear that we might miss out on the opportunity if we try to push back and negotiate.

While there are multiple factors that are out of our control as black corporate career women, we can certainly change the narrative and use our voices and the value of our work to get compensated for what we deserve.
