The story of the first Apostolic Martyr in the latter-days is not well known. The conversion and dedication of David W. Patten is inspiring. During his life he stood fearlessly in the face of evil. He even had an encounter with Cain, who he described as tall, wearing no clothes, covered with hair and very dark. That sounds like a description of Big Foot  Elder Patten was known as ‘Captain Fear Not’ during the time of LDS persecution in Missouri. He was feared by the mobs and revered by their victims. Before that time Elder Patten was known to have the gift of healing and healed almost all who were brought to him. He commanded the elements, and they obeyed. He was the President of the Quorum of the Twelve.
