🔥[11-04] Keeping your dream projects alive even when your full-time job feels immovable

Listen Later

Anjan Sannidhi: As I transition into a high income role in the family business, I want to discuss what this means for my future in documentary and filmmaking in general. While I don't want to give up my career in documentary, I also think it's time I take a more active role in the family business and appreciate everything that my Dad has built.

  • Give yourself permission to pursue developing your own documentary projects outside of work.
  • Be conscious of your specific budget for time, energy and attention considering the “work” as an immovable object. It’s going to be more difficult, but it’s doable.
  • Keep the documentary plate spinning, knowing it’s meaningful to you and you have a clear purpose behind telling stories and being a documentary filmmaker.
  • Develop a growth mindset: “I cannot be a full-time documentary filmmaker right now, but I could be in the future.” Rather than a fixed mindset of accepting things as it is.
  • Have clear expectations where you can still pursue the path that you want, but with constraints. It's just going to take longer with a full-time job.
