The Future Right Now

Isaiah 9:1-7

Judges 6:1The Israelites did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. So the Lord handed them over to Midian seven years,

Judges 10:6 Then the Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. They worshiped the Baals and the Ashtoreths, the gods of Aram, Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites and the Philistines. They abandoned the Lord and did not worship him.

Judges 6:13-16

The story of Gideon is not about Gideon’s strength, but God’s presence (”But I will be with you”).

Judges 7:7 The Lord said to Gideon, “I will deliver you with the three hundred men who lapped and hand the Midianites over to you. But everyone else is to go home.”

Judges 7:9 That night the Lord said to him, “Get up and attack the camp, for I have handed it over to you.

Judges 7:14 His friend answered, “This is nothing less than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has handed the entire Midianite camp over to him.”

Judges 7:15 When Gideon heard the account of the dream and its interpretation, he bowed in worship. He returned to Israel’s camp and said, “Get up, for the Lord has handed the Midianite camp over to you.”

...I will deliver you.

...for I have handed it over to you.

God has handed...

Judges 7:12 Now the Midianites, Amalekites, and all the people of the east had settled down in the valley like a swarm of locusts, and their camels were as innumerable as the sand on the seashore.

Judges 7:19-22

Through the weakest family and the smallest army, God pre-declared a victory– showing us a pattern of His work: God’s strength through our weakness.

Isaiah 8:21-22

21 They will wander through the land, dejected and hungry. When they are famished, they will become enraged, and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. 22 They will look toward the earth and see only distress, darkness, and the gloom of affliction, and they will be driven into thick darkness.

Isaiah 9:1 Nevertheless, the gloom of the distressed land will not be like that of the former times when he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali. But in the future he will bring honor to the way of the sea, to the land east of the Jordan, and to Galilee of the nations.

Distress

Darkness

The gloom of affliction

Isaiah 9:2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness.

Isaiah 9:3-4

3 You have enlarged the nation and increased its joy. The people have rejoiced before you as they rejoice at harvest time and as they rejoice when dividing spoils.4 For you have shattered their oppressive yoke and the rod on their shoulders, the staff of their oppressor ,just as you did on the day of Midian.

Isaiah 9:5-7

5 For every trampling boot of battle and the bloodied garments of war will be burned as fuel for the fire.6 For a child will be born for us,a son will be given to us,and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.7 The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom,to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.

Isaiah 9:2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness.

Isaiah 9:6 For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
