🔥[11-20] Finding the smallest next step that makes free time feel manageable

Selina Hakansson: After a few weeks with a lot of work I now have a week free. Even though I really looked forward to some time off work I find myself overwhelmed with anxiety as I now have my own life to deal with instead of being busy helping others at work. I like to discuss a way forward.

  • Get clear about who you are in life mode by naming the specific things you want to work toward so your free time stops feeling empty and starts feeling purposeful.
  • Ask what your challenge actually represents and why the reaction feels so intense so you can work with the emotional meaning instead of only the logical part.
  • Recognize when everything leads back to analysis paralysis and use that awareness as your cue to shrink the problem into something your brain can actually choose.
  • Break everything into pieces so you are not dealing with the whole problem at once but only the next tiny task that moves you forward.
  • Work with someone who can help you break things down into fundamentals so you learn the basic building blocks before trying to handle the entire structure.
  • Clarify your goals so the focus question becomes easier to answer and you know exactly where your attention belongs.
  • Take off the overthinking cap by reviewing your calendar and deciding where to create space and time to be around the kinds of people who support the life you want.
