In All Things

11 - in finding a church

Listen Later

In this episode, I walk you through the process of finding a church.  From my own experience, I share five things to look for to ensure that you are at a church that is following closely in the steps of what the Bible teaches.

1. The church needs to be biblically sound.
2. Sound doctrine needs to be at the foundation of the church.
3. There should be involvement of the whole congregation.
4. Church leadership has the responsibility to keep individuals in the church accountable.
5. Church leadership should be kept accountable.

Verses:

  • Matthew 18:15-20: “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.  “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.  “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
  • In 1 Timothy 4:16, it says, “ Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
  • Hebrews 13:17: “Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.”
  • 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God (other versions say inspired by God) and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
  • In 1 Timothy 4:16, it says, “ Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
  • 1 Timothy 1:9-11: " We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.”
