Hello listeners! Today, the two brilliant leaders behind last Friday’s School Strike for Climate (SS4C) in Byron Bay join us, Inde Henderson and Ella Whan! Inde and Ella are both high school students of the Byron Shire, and are passionate about making a difference within their school and the local community. They are active members of the local group of students, SS4C, who organise events for young people worried about their future. Inde and Ella co-facilitated a Climate March in Byron Bay last Friday, bringing together passionate students from schools from all across the shire. This climate protest ran nation-wide in many other cities. It was an incredibly empowering event.
We chat about how Inde and Ella’s journey with activism began, and what role school played in this. They share the frustrating challenges that they commonly face, and how they stay resilient to these. We talk about our government, and how we need diversity in our leaders for true democracy and voices. To finish, Inde and Ella share their favourite experiences with activism, and I’m jealous (someone met Greta Thunberg)!
Inde and Ella demonstrate the leadership it takes to fight for climate action. They have created a space for the many students, staff, businesses, and industries to unite; and to amplify their voices of concern, anger, and frustration for the lack of action on climate change. We all want a future. And we will have one. #fundourfuturenotgas
