  • Chronic stress responses become normalized: cortisol remains elevated, the sympathetic (fight/flight) nervous system is perpetually active.
  • The cycle: overthinking signals threat, which creates stress, which in turn perpetuates more overthinking.


5. The Costs of Anticipatory Anxiety

  • The body does not distinguish between real and imagined threats.
    • Rehearsing worst-case scenarios triggers real physiological stress responses.
    • This leads to experiencing stress twice: once in anticipation and again if/when the actual event occurs.


6. Central Role of Uncertainty

  • For most women Lillian works with, the real trigger is not danger itself, but uncertainty.
    • The body has not learned to interpret the unknown as safe, instead equating it with potential pain or threat.


7. The Path to Healing: Somatic Work

  • Intellectual understanding cannot dissolve this cycle.
    • The loop of anxiety and hypervigilance is embedded in the nervous system and must be addressed somatically.
    • True healing is when the body learns safety without needing control.
    • A new internal narrative: "I do not know what will happen; I trust I can handle it."


8. Transition to Practice: Program Invitations

  • Lillian introduces two live somatic programs:
    1. The Return: A two-hour live somatic experience designed as a direct entry point to the work, emphasizing real-time, body-based transformation.
    2. The Becoming: A four-week live group program focused on sustained practice and nervous system co-regulation within a community of women, meeting on Zoom.
