‘110 years since the passing of the 1913 Natives Land Act’

Listen Later

Today (Monday 19th June) marks exactly one-hundred-and-ten years since the passing of the 1913 Natives Land Act. This Act limited African land ownership to 7% and later changed to 13% through the 1936 Native Trust and Land Act of South Africa. Since the dawn of democracy, the various regimes from Nelson Mandela’s government to Cyril Ramaphosa have not really come up with concrete solutions on the land issue.
