It’s November 1st and on this day in 1897, the Library of Congress building opened to the public. 

The Library of Congress Building is now called the Thomas Jefferson Building. 

At the time of it’s opening it was the largest library in the world and it remains one of the world's largest (often the largest) collections with over 170 million items today.
