Following Jesus is always more difficult to do than the Christian could imagine. A more dangerous struggle faces the veteran Christian because of the sin of Pride and Arrogant Ambition. This scene of Matthew 20:20-28 is only repeated once more in Mark’s gospel [Mark 10:35-40]
Here is how C. S. Lewis describes “The Great Sin”
“There is no fault which makes a man more unpopular, and no fault which we are more unconscious of in ourselves. And the more we have it ourselves, the more we dislike it in others. The vice I am talking of is Pride or Self-Conceit: and the virtue opposite to it, in Christian morals, is called Humility.” [‘The Great Sin’: Mere Christianity; Book III.ch. 8, p. 109]
