Mark is the man behind the IG @createthelove and podcast host of ‘The Mark Groves Podcast’. From a pharmaceutical rep to a human connection specialist, committed to providing no BS relationship advice, Mark riffs with Steph on identity, change, and how our behaviour differs between work and home. Mark and Steph explore the beginnings of Mark’s transition into entrepreneurship, and how he came to embrace ‘love’ in the brand of his business; “When I woke up in a relationship and asked; ‘How did I get here?’ that led to me to ask; ‘How did I get here?’ in everything. You start to see: ‘Is this my story or the story I was taught to want?’” Mark analyzes our need to fit in, and how it is evolutionarily programmed into us to want to belong — this is why rejection feels so painful. Our attempt to avoid this pain response leads us to abandon parts of ourselves in order to be accepted. Marks believes that becoming conscious of this is part of an awakening. It is terrifying to declare what we want - in life, in work, and in a relationship - because others may not approve of it. This is why entrepreneurship is so terrifying. It is a vulnerable act of putting oneself out into the world. “So much healing occurs in the vulnerability that is required to put yourself out there”.
