Stop and reflect on the last time a close friend went through something difficult, or made a mistake at work - how did you respond? Then think of how you respond to yourself when you go through challenging situations or get things wrong - how do you speak to yourself? A go to phrase we say to ourselves is, "You idiot!"
Well-being and mental health consultant and trainer Tom Cleary specialises in self-compassion and leadership, and works with athletes, veterans and high performing leaders - many of them suffering from burnout. Tom explains that with increased self-compassion comes increased self-awareness, which also fosters compassion towards others. One of the elements of self-compassion is mindfulness - a key component in resilience, well-being and success in business.
