In 2019, photographer Melisa Caprio published Postcards to the Universe, a book that incorporates the ‘mood board’ postcards her students send to her, their manifestation stories and exercises, and fun stuff readers can do to bring more abundance into their lives.
What is abundance?
Melisa explains that everything is energy. The earth, animals, rocks, and even the emotions and feelings we feel.
The universe observes our actions and emotions and brings us what it perceives we are looking for.
Because we’re human, this is a mix of the positive life brings, and the negative. The magic of abundance is that it keeps you moving towards your goal, even when things get tough.
The affirmation and postcards seep into your subconscious and keep you working towards what it is you want - in your case, a finished novel.
What this means is we are co-creators of our lives with the universe. We bring in what we are thinking about.
One of my favourite quotes is from Tony Robbins, who says, “wherever our focus goes, our energy flows”.
If we focus on the negative, that’s what we invite in. But, if we can shift that to focus on the positive, then we invite that in.
How can we use the energies of abundance and manifestation to change the way we view ourselves as writers?
Melisa encourages us to enjoy being in the creative flow or the creative vortex. Even if the writing doesn't make any sense at the time, keep going. Trust in your creative process. Logic comes later.
She also suggests using affirmations. For writers, a great affirmation might be, “I am a published author.’
If you have that affirmation pinned up everywhere around you, if you see it regularly, in all different areas of your life, the message slowly but surely seeps into your subconscious, you change your inner dialogue and realise that yes, you are a writer.
We finish our conversation with Melisa telling me about how important gratitudes are in her life.
She believes in them so much she even has a free course for anyone who wants to learn more. The course shows you how to create a Postcard, and how to effectively use gratitudes in your day-to-day life and increase the abundance you bring in.
