You know the old saying: “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime." As nurses, we all know that one of our most important job is to advocate for our patients. But what if we could also teach them how to do that for themselves? It would be even more powerful. Teaching our patients to stand up for themselves, ask more questions, and participate in their own treatment will impact their health far beyond their hospital stay.
