Forgiveness is a virtue I utilize in my life constantly.
Forgiveness is something that can be hard. We might have to forgo our pride, or we might have to give up something we may not want to. Forgiveness is a great gift to give, and it is an amazing gift to receive. It’s easier to forgive others than it is to forgive ourselves. I know a lot of us struggle with this because we know we could do better, or we know that we should do better. We should give our best, yes of course, but when we don’t have leniency with ourselves then we are pushing ourselves too hard. We are asking for unrealistic results of ourselves and our lives. The reason we make mistakes is so we learn. We need to give ourselves the chance to process the mistakes and to get better. Forcing yourself to work harder or to be better might get you there, but it will take a longer time to reach your goal. Forcing is a less effective tool than allowing and utilizing forgiveness.
So, let us forgive others who have hurt us. Even though it may have seemed like they did it on purpose, most times it’s because they are hurting themselves so they take it out on others. When we can see this, we don’t have to hold onto the hurt anymore because we understand the bigger picture. And when we can forgive ourselves, we allow better things to come into our lives.
