Raise your hand if you ever watched Dukes of Hazard.

Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every day of the week!  This is message #118 and I am Aaron Havens.

To get right to the punch today… I want to talk about having a victim mindset.Taking everything personal.
Structuring your life to be able to hide behind something.WARNING… I AM NOT A PSYCHOLOGIST!  We are all adults here. I'm trusting you will take what works for you today, and throw the rest in the trash.

Ready?  So here is my story.

I was in second grade, so what does that make me an age 7, 8… something like that. Every Friday night our family had a tradition of watching a TV show called Dukes of Hazzard. I mean I had the car, I had the shirt, I had the lunch box… I would get so excited for this show. If you've been listening to Growth Instigators for a while, you've probably surmised that Aaron Havens as a kid was quite a handful!  One particular Friday I was probably way too amped up and excited to watch Dukes of Hazzard. I'm sure I got plenty of warnings, and I'm sure I deserved it. My parents finally broke and sent me to bed 15 minutes before Dukes of Hazzard. Now this was in the middle of the summer and so it wasn't even dark outside. And on top of that, they made popcorn and I could hear the popcorn and smell the popcorn. I didn't cry myself to sleep that night, but I really was upset!

Why would you do that to me?
This is my favorite show!
You're mean, parents!

Haha.  It's funny how life comes back to balance the scales.
I think I scared one of my girls by doing something similar!  Haha (sorry girls)

Where in your life are you refusing to take ownership?  Like if you think about it for a minute, you really were a little turd that night and deserved to go to bed early. Where are you sticking your head in the sand and ignoring a problem where… after some serious consideration… might you find that you're hiding behind an excuse. No I'm not saying excuse is bad at all. I'm just asking are you walking around as a victim? When in reality you might just need to adjust some things for a more optimal outcome.

Thanks for calling in today.  Tune in tomorrow for a fresh new topic!  After the beep:

Are you hiding behind an excuse?  Are you willing to do whatever it takes to square up and look that excuse in the face… have a conversation… change some things and move on?
