118. The Feast of Tabernacles

Listen Later

The last feast of the year, and the feast called The Greatest Feast, is that of Sukkoth; also known as Tabernacles. It takes place from the 15th day to the 21st day of the seventh month. In 2019, that is Sunday October 13th at sunset through Saturday October 26th at sunset.
Celebrants were to build booths – Sukkoth – to live in for these 7 days. The roof was to have gaps to see the moon and let the rain in all to remind the Jews of the wanderings in the wilderness, and to remind them and us, that this place is not our home. Jesus would later tell us "not to store up for ourselves riches here on earth, where moths and rust will destroy, and robbers will steal" Matthew 6:19.
The feast begins of the 15th day of the month. 15 means rest, and lasts for 7 days, the number of completion of perfection - thus perfect rest. This feast is a picture of that perfect rest we are looking forward to in eternity with the Lord.
