Sarah used to play a lot of pranks.

When she was 12, all of the girls in her class decide to pull a prank on the school's principal (a despicable woman who seemed to hate children, and love to punish them: a real life Dolores Umbridge) creating a fake fund raising flyer on her behalf for her to get liposuction.

They print out the flyers and walk around the neighborhood handing them out. When the principal finds out about it, she frames Sarah as the mastermind behind the operation, as if she had forced the other girls to participate. She's suspended and invited to leave the school.

Overtaken by shame, in the following years Sarah suppresses that wild, prankster part of hers, only much later on to realize that suppression was not a solution and didn't make her a happier or better person.
