“Just remember, you can do anything you set your mind to, but it takes action, perseverance, and facing your fears.”
(Gillian Anderson[1])
What do you think would be scariest for you: Being one month away from your first Olympic Games with very high expectations for you to win? Flying down a bobsled course at over 70 miles per hour? Or becoming an entrepreneur?
Well, Lauryn Williams has done all three, and in this episode of our Something Significant podcast, she shares what was scariest for her. More importantly, she shares how she overcomes fear and keeps her life moving forward—doing work she loves and providing value to others too.
Lauryn is one accomplished woman. She’s a four-time Olympian and 3-time Olympic medalist, and she’s one of only five athletes in the history of the Olympic Games to win medals at both the Summer and Winter Olympics. Her amazing athletic career culminated at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, where she won the Silver medal in the two-woman bobsled.
After such an incredible victory, many might find themselves asking, “Now what?” How does one move on from something that big? Well, in spite of loads of fear, Lauryn took action by embarking on the unfamiliar adventure of entrepreneurship.
Her next chapter—life after athletics—began coming together when she shifted her mindset. She became determined to stop acting only according to the world’s expectations of her (most people seemed laser-focused on her past Olympic accomplishments) and to begin giving from a place of what she truly wants to share with the world: helping others achieve the freedom that comes from having organized finances.
I’m excited to share this one with you, my dear listener. Get ready to be inspired, and, as always, enjoy the show!
