12. Thoughts on Our National Strategy to Prevent Plastic Pollution

In November 2024, the EPA released the National Strategy to Prevent Plastic Pollution. This strategy was developed in accordance with the Save Our Seas Act 2.0 of 2020 signed by President Trump on December 18, 2020.

This national strategy has six main objectives

  1. Reduce Pollution from Plastic Production
  2. Innovate Material and Product Design
  3. Decrease Waste Generation
  4. Improve Waste management
  5. Improve Capture and Removal of Plastic Pollution
  6. Minimize Loadings and Impacts to Waterways and the Ocean

    7. Will this strategy ever be implemented given the current political environment of job cuts and funding freezes?
