Have you ever felt completely overwhelmed by your child’s tantrums—like their emotions instantly trigger yours, and before you know it, you’re both melting down? I’ve been there too, mama.
In this episode, I’m unpacking what’s really going on during those big emotional outbursts and how you can stay calm, connected, and confident even when your child loses it. We’ll talk about the nervous system science behind tantrums, how your calm presence helps your child’s brain return to peace, and why punishment doesn’t work the way we think it does.
You’ll also hear a personal story from my own motherhood journey—one that taught me how fear, healing, and the Holy Spirit all play a role in helping us parent with grace.
If you’ve ever wondered, “Why can’t my child just calm down?” or “Why do I lose it when they do?”—this episode will bring clarity, compassion, and hope.
Why tantrums are a healthy and necessary part of your child’s development
How to recognize your child’s (and your own) nervous system zones—green, red, and blue
What’s really happening when kids “calm down” after punishment
How to help your child process emotions through play and connection
How healing your own emotional wounds allows you to parent with peace and presence
Tantrums aren’t proof that something’s wrong—they’re proof that your child’s body is doing exactly what it’s meant to do: release big emotions. My calm presence is what helps my child’s nervous system return to safety and peace. When I let God meet me in my own triggers, I can become the calm my child needs.
I encourage you to pause and reflect on these questions after listening:
How do your child’s tantrums make your body feel?
What old fears or stories rise up in you when your child loses control?
How might God be inviting healing in you so you can show up with His peace?
Take a moment to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to bring calm and compassion into those tender places.
