Two dietitians, two podcasters - Michelle Yates, RD and I discuss some of the many nuances around intuitive eating and practicing nutrition from a weight-inclusive perspective.
We discuss the work that we do with clients and that our goal is to put ourselves out of business. Who is intuitive eating for? Not for? Is it ever helpful to "diet"?
We both believe in weight-inclusive care AND we dive into some of what we're seeing in the weight-inclusive space online. Sometimes that space can not feel very inclusive when it's landing in the same rigid system as diet-culture or if people are interacting from a place of anger and their own pain and hurt. The in-fighting in the weight-inclusive community can be a big turn-off for people in exploring new ways of thinking and practicing dietetics.
We believe that being able to ask questions and be welcomed in with respect is really important for the weight-inclusive movement if we want to welcome and invite more people in. We believe having grace for people who are curious and learning about weight-inclusive care is very important.
If you love my personal and professional updates, please stay-tuned till the end.
