In this Uncovered episode, Jason interviews Sarah Fisher Dobbin on music therapy, what it is, how it works and what kinds of impact it can have.
Sarah has obtained a Masters of Music Therapy as well as a Masters of Special Education which followed a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education. Sarah has been working in music education with students with a range of needs as a music therapist and educator. This experience includes working in schools that cater for students with behaviour and emotional issues, schools for students with moderate to severe intellectual and physical disabilities and in mainstream settings.
Sarah runs her own private music therapy practice on the Central Coast NSW providing individual and group music therapy sessions. In addition to working for the Department of Education and her own private practice, Sarah has provided private music tuition on a variety of instruments. Sarah is an accomplished musician as well as a music therapist and educator. She enjoys performing with her local symphony orchestra, Symphony Central Coast . Sarah has also performed in a number of musical theatre shows with Gosford Musical Society. Additionally, Sarah has played as an individual, within duets and a variety of chamber ensembles. She has played for charity and community events, weddings and enjoys informal music opportunities.
