SMARTFONE FLICK FEST 2017 – OPEN FOR ENTRIES!
Entries are now open for the 3rd annual SmartFone Flick Fest (SF3), returning to light up Paddington’s Chauvel Cinema on Thursday 24 August 2017.
Each year, SF3 receive hundreds of incredible short film entries, shot entirely on a phone or tablet, from Australia and around the world. 10 of the short films are then selected as finalists and screened at the Gala Final Awards Screening at Palace Chauvel Cinema in August. Also screened on the night are the Kids Flick Pick winning film and the winner of the #FILMBREAKER award for the first time filmmaker.
For the first time the winner of this year's festival will also have their film screened in San Diego at the Global Mobile Film Awards in April 2018, an international awards ceremony and event for smartphone filmmakers around the world.
Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned pro, SF3 is open to anyone eager to tell their story through film.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of Australia’s only international film festival dedicated to smartphone films. Submissions for the Festival are being accepted through www.sf3.com.au and will close on Tuesday 1 August, 2017.
SF3 Festival directors and founders Ali Crew and Angela Blake say they are excited to see the calibre of entries for this year’s fest.
“Smartphone filmmaking has burst into the mainstream in recent years, with many TV shows and feature films in the U.S. shooting on smartphones,” says Angela. “The critically acclaimed 2015 film Tangerine was shot entirely on an iPhone 5s and picked up a slew of awards recently at some of the top international film festivals.”
“Each year we’re wowed by the quality of films being submitted into the festival. From first time filmmakers to industry stalwarts, the technology, apps and editing software that’s out there means the quality of films being produced is staggering,” said Ali.
The finalist films are judged by a panel of industry judges with winners in 11 categories announced at the gala screening. There are incredible prizes up for grabs and it’s easy to enter, the only requirements are that films must not exceed six and a half minutes (including credits) and must be shot entirely on a smartphone or tablet.
This year sF3 are also introducing a new category, SF360. SF360 is home to 360 videos sent from around the world for SF3. 360 videos are recordings where a view in every direction is recorded at the same time, allowing viewers to not only watch an experience from any point of view, but also immerse themselves in this experience with a VR headset. Rules for entering a film in SF360 are the same as general submissions entries.
So grab your Samsung, Apple or tablet and get filming!
