John's interest in languages led him to study Mandarin in Beijing, where he lived with a Chinese family and immersed himself in the language. His goal was to speak clear English like the characters in American sitcoms. This experience, coupled with his subsequent move to Hong Kong, where he started his first company, expanded his worldview and gave him a unique perspective on life and business.

Get Upgraded's core concept is simple yet revolutionary. Subscribers receive a new computer or laptop every two years, and they return their old machine. These old devices are then refurbished and put back on the market, creating a cycle of reuse that benefits both the consumer and the environment.
